Vocational Assessments
The Mingary Counselling Service provides low-cost vocational assessments for people at various stages of their working lives.
Please note that we only provide testing for individuals aged 18 years and above.
The assessment procedure is a collaborative process in which the counsellor works with you to arrive at clear recommendations for future career directions.
The assessment procedure
- Preliminary interview (50 minutes)
The preliminary interview focuses on your vocational needs, aspirations, career objectives, educational history, vocational history and reasons for requesting the assessment at this time.
- Assessment of personality and interests (2 hours)
This assessment is required in order to arrive at vocational choices that will be aligned with your personal values and interests. It involves the completion of a series of written questionnaires (mainly multiple choice).
- Assessment of ability (2-3 hours)
This assessment involves the completion of a range of tasks designed to assess your relative strengths and weaknesses. The information obtained will enable the counsellor to advise you regarding which career options are best matched with your aptitudes.
- Feedback interview (50 minutes)
During this session, the counsellor provides verbal feedback regarding the results of both testing sessions. It includes the opportunity to discuss these results in the context of your personal vocational needs.
- Final interview (50 minutes)
A detailed written report is provided at the final consultation. It includes a vocational profile and recommendations for pursuing different career options.
Fees
The fee for a vocational assessment is $150 and may be paid in instalments of $30 at each of the five consultations.
